U.S. Senate rejects legislation to extend tax credits for renewables - AGAIN!

For the sixth time in less than a year, the Senate failed to invoke cloture on the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008 this afternoon.

The vote was 52-44, well short of the 60 needed to move the legislation forward.

Montana Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester again registered the pro-environment vote - and have been leaders on this issue from the get-go.  They deserve another round of hearty thanks.

This badly-needed legislation would have extended the investment tax credits (ITC) for solar energy and the production tax credits (PTC) for wind, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, landfill gas, and solid waste.

Some of the credits are due to expire at the end of the year, which could dramatically curtail investment in the clean and renewable energy needed to combat global warming.
