In this edition of the Montana Conservation Voters Education Fund’s Congressional Watch, we have some updates on proposed energy legislation, some good news to report, and some issues to watch on the horizon.

Tune into the “How They Voted” section of Congressional Watch to find out how Senator Jon Tester recently stood up for homegrown, renewable biofuel energy and said “NO!” to a backward-looking energy proposal.

Then, turn to “Actions and Opinions” to read about new legislation Tester has proposed to address global climate change and the necessary research for carbon sequestration in coal-to-liquids development.

Click on “Action and Opinions” to find out how you can encourage the Montana Delegation to sustain a valuable federal program that has protected millions of acres of public wildlands and open space.  You’ll also find out what Senators Tester and Baucus have already accomplished through this federal initiative to protect important elk habitat in Montana’s Elkhorn Mountains.  After reading about it, you’ll see why it’s critical that Congress continues to fund this important program for wildlife and habitat.

We also provide another update on the ongoing controversy over a proposed coalmine near Glacier National Park – and what Senator Baucus has been doing to stop it.

And, last but not least, we’re glad to report in “Actions and Opinions” how Rep. Rehberg and Senators Baucus and Tester united to protect water flows for Montana trout populations in a prized Montana River.

We hope you enjoy this edition of Congressional Watch!  As always, we’ve provided information to help you get in touch with the Montana Delegation and links to Montana conservation and environmental groups working on the issues.
