Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

  • In March, the Senate narrowly passed a budget resolution that threatens the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with oil drilling. Anti-environmental senators used the national budget, and abused their power, once again in an attempt to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of America's most pristine wild places, to oil drilling.

The Congress returns to work on April 24th and MCVEF will continue to follow the ongoing debates over the budget. We hope that the House of Representatives, who showed courage on the issue last week when the House Budget Committee rejected big oil’s drilling provision, will reject the Senate’s sneak attempts to open the Arctic Refuge to drilling and settle this unpopular idea. The American public wants clean, affordable, reliable and efficient solutions to our energy challenges.

If the full House passes its budget resolution it will move into a conference committee with the Senate to hammer out a compromise. Drilling proponents are certain to push hard for the Senate drilling language to be included in the final resolution, but they would be in a far weaker position since it’s not included in the House bill. Please help us ensure their efforts are unsuccessful.
