Senator Baucus Introduces Incentives For Conservation And Renewable Energy In 2007 Farm Bill

| |

Senator Baucus recently unveiled a plan to provide significant tax relief to Montana’s farmers and ranchers and incentives for conservation, and clean, renewable energy production.

Baucus is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and has included his provision in the Farm Bill for consideration.  His tax package frees up $8-10 billion in revenue that can be included in the Farm Bill (www.baucus.senate.gov) which is scheduled to expire Sept. 30th.

Baucus’ measure would provide the following benefits for the environment:

Conservation Tax Credit:  Producers now receive cash payments for land conservation efforts.  Baucus’ plan would provide producers with the option of receiving a tax credit in lieu of the cash. Tax incentives free up funds from the Farm Bill budget.

Renewable Energy Tax Incentives:  This provision includes tax incentives for wind energy production and cellulosic biofuels, ethanol and biodiesel.

His provision also provides funds for permanent disaster relief assistance for agricultural producers.  In the coming weeks, Baucus’ agriculture tax package will go before the Senate Finance Committee for consideration.

Contact Senator Baucus to thank him for including incentives for homegrown, renewable energy sources in Montana.
