congresswatch | Energy | Pollution
The House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 6052, to promote both increased public transportation use and increased use of alternative fuels in providing public transportation. The measure had tremendous support, passing by 322 to 98. (Roll Call HB 6052 link here for a complete tally)
The "Saving Energy Through Public Transportation Act of 2008" takes forward-thinking steps to achieve sustainable energy conservation and efficiency. By fostering mass transit for everyone, the bill gets cars off the road, which saves energy, helps the climate and provides relief from traffic snarls. So, why did Rep. Rehberg vote against this proposal? Ask him (again) what he's got against conserving the nation's energy sources, in the midst of sky-high oil prices and the mounting costs of global climate change.
