Montana Senators Vote In Favor Of Two Energy Bills

From LCV's Vote Tracker:  Though both of these votes were unsucesssful, both Senators Baucus and Tester deserve thanks for standing up to Big Oil and promoting a renewable energy future.

S. 3044; Consumer-First Energy Act of 2008 (06/10/2008, Roll Call No. 146) With this vote, the  Senate failed to pass a bill that would redirect a portion of windfall profits  of oil and gas companies into a fund designed to reduce American dependence on  foreign oil and offset the effects of climate change.  S. 3044 would also  exempt profits derived from clean renewable energy to incentivize investment in industries such as wind and solar power. (YES is the pro-environment vote)

H.R. 6049; Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008 (06/10/2008, Roll Call No. 147) With this vote, the Senate rejected a bill that extends federal tax incentives for the renewable energy industry that have expired or are set to expire at year-end 2008.  Failure to extend these incentives this year results in the loss of thousands of jobs, hurt the economy, and would be a major step backwards in the development of a sustainable energy industry to combat climate change. (YES is the pro-environment vote.)
