Rehberg Lashes Out At Clean Water Restoration Act

|

In April, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing on the Clean Water Restoration Act (S. 1870 & H.R.2421).  Following immediately after, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee held its own hearing on the bill.

Between the two hearings, more than 28 witnesses, in addition to numerous Members of Congress, testified on this important legislation. The witnesses at the hearings included representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, Army Corps of Engineers, US Dept. of Agriculture, Justice Department, state and local governments, environmental organizations, Farm Bureau, mining industry, and Montana's own Governor Brian Schweitzer.

The next step to restore the full authority of the Clean Water Act is to get the bill voted successfully out of the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee with no weakening amendments inserted.  After this committee vote, the bill is headed for the House floor, for a vote by all U.S. Representatives.  This commonsense bill has many staunch supporters within Congress.  Who wouldn't vote for clean, healthy water for our country, communities and citizens?

Apparently, Dennis Rehberg wouldn't.

Montana's U.S. Representative Dennis Rehberg fails to see the importance of clean water.  As reported in the article by the Billings Gazette, Congressman Rehberg has excoriated Gov. Brian Schweitzer over the Clean Water Restoration Act, saying the measure would give federal agencies too much authority over the nation's water.

Contact Dennis Rehberg and ask him to support the strongest possible legislation to protect the country's water - for people and for wildlife.
