Take Action – Write a letter to the Editor

Montana's major newspapers, including the Billings Gazette, Bozeman Chronicle, Great Falls Tribune, Helena IR, Missoulian, and Montana Standard,  printed the AP or other stories about President Obama's speech on February 25.

Please take this opportunity to write a letter to the editor of one these local newspapers or others to reinforce President Obama's commitment to cap climate-changing emissions and call on Montana's Congressional delegation to pass legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution:

Points to make:

  • With his first address to a joint session of Congress on February 25th, President Obama made history.  His speech marked the first time a President has called on Congress to pass a cap on global warming pollution in an address to both houses.
  • As he said when he laid out his plan for America's future, 'it begins with energy.'
  • I applaud President Obama for his leadership and commitment to bringing about a clean energy economy.
  • Many in Montana are committed to making the President's vision a reality.
  • I urge Senators Baucus and Tester, and Rep. Rehberg to help lead Congress in passing a strong, science-based global warming bill this year.
  • We cannot afford to wait.
