Growth in Gallatin County:
• We are now the 32nd fastest growing county in the nation. At the growth rate of the past decade, we can expect over 25,000 new homes in the next 20 years.
• Compared to traditional growth patterns, in which most homes were built in towns, most of the county’s new growth has been sprawling out into the countryside.
• This new growth pattern affects our everyday lives: it’s expensive for taxpayers, paves over our most productive soils, and threatens Gallatin Valley’s water quality, air quality, access to public lands, open space, and wildlife habitat.
Commissioner’s Plan to Manage Growth:
• The Gallatin County Commissioners are formulating a plan to manage growth by encouraging it in our existing communities – where taxpayers have made huge investments in infrastructure and services – through a combination of incentives and regulations.
