PCA Backpacking Trip
This four-day packtrip in the high country of Greater Yellowstone will take place in the beautiful Dunoir Valley, near Dubois, WY. The Dunoir is a spectacular glaciated volcanic valley of high plateaus between lush open meadows. During your horseback summit of Dunoir Butte, you will see a wide diversity and abundance of wildflowers and wildlife, including moose, elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep. Meredith and Tory Taylor, your guides, are longtime residents and outfitters in the Dubois area and are experienced in the natural history of the Wind River Valley. You will also be accompanied by a PCA staff person or board member.
You will traverse the Continental Divide at Bowles Pass and fish the streams and lakes for brook trout and native cutthroat trout. You'll fish Dunoir Creek as well as assorted lakes along the way. No need to be an accomplished fisherman to enjoy this outing. Fly fishing instruction will be available, so please bring your own equipment. No formal riding experience is necessary, as all horses are trail-savvy steeds; however, guests are encouraged to ride or hike prior to the trip. There will be plenty of time for swimming in cold streams and lakes, photographing awesome scenery, fishing for wild trout, and generally having fun with friends – both new and old.
This four-day adventure will begin Tuesday, August 17, when you meet at 10 a.m. at the Bonneville Pass trailhead near Brooks Lake and end Friday, August 20, mid-afternoon at the same trailhead You may fly into Jackson Hole or Riverton, WY and from either airport, the closest town to the trailhead is Dubois, WY.
TRIP COST: $1,100 (includes a $100.00 taxdeductible donation to PCA).
COST INCLUDES: Gourmet meals, guides, tents, horses and tack, fly fishing instruction (please bring own fishing equipment, day pack, sleeping bag and sleeping pad). Does not include alcohol or guide gratuity.
DEPOSIT: A nonrefundable deposit of $250 is due following confirmation. The balance payment of $850 is due June 1, 2007 and payment is nonrefundable after that date. Cancellation insurance is available from most travel companies if you need it.
