MT Lawmakers to Discuss Carbon Sequestration, Other Energy Issues

A legislative committee will consider whether to propose laws related to carbon sequestration at a meeting Jan. 24.

The Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee will convene at 8 a.m. in Room 172 of the State Capitol in Helena. An agenda and other meeting materials are available at www.leg.mt.gov.

As part of its discussion of carbon sequestration, the committee will review model legislation and regulations developed by the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.

The committee also will:

  • Discuss potential legislation to continue the electric Universal Systems Benefits (USB) program; 
  • Begin examining the issue of wind integration; 
  • Hear about energy efficiency and conservation from representatives of the Alternative Energy Resources Organization; 
  • Discuss public power; and 
  • Hear updates from the Public Service Commission and state Department of Commerce Energy Infrastructure Promotion and Development Division.
